google temporary crash translation :
Bardo is a Tibetan word that means “interval” between death and rebirth.
Interval of perception, interval between two worlds, potential bridge between the visible and invisible, Bardo_Noise is an interactive installation on 8 screens that develop an extreme attention to stimulating the observer with a saturated and sensitive environment. An increased / disturbed spectral captations (local and global electromagnetic spectrum) and digital snow invites us to explore our perception of reality by giving free rein to the human capacity to organize chaos and make sense out of the elusive.

//

Since his birth in 1972, Joachim Montessuis has lived in 15 different cities, including Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Marrakech, Abidjan, Besançon, Rotterdam, Cologne. He is currently based in Paris. He is interested in the links between art, science and spirituality. He grew up surrounded by Buddhist monks, Gnawas musicians and oriental sacred texts that gave him the sense of ritual and trance in music.

Since 1993 he has been developing a transversal sonic poetry praxis focused on experimental voice processing and immersive concert-installations. His noise and video events are devised as panic-poetic spaces in which sensorial disturbance and blurring occur, starting from silence, passing through some extreme crescendos, and finally building up to a wall of sound. He has worked in some major European electronic arts centres (CICV, Fresnoy, V2_Lab, KHM) and his live performances and installations have been presented at international venues and festivals including DEAF in Rotterdam, ISEA, ICA in London, Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, Sónar in Barcelona, Elektra in Montreal, Rio de Janeiro among others.

He also is the editor of the CD label “Erratum”- devoted to art, noise and experimental sound poetry – which he started in 1997. He occasionally curates experimental poetry events and exhibitions. In 2004, he presented M.U.S.H. (a long term research project developed with Eleonore Hellio at the V2_Lab) during the DEAF festival in Rotterdam, a videosonic telepresence experiment between two spaces, where extreme noise interacts with wireless accelerometers sensors, neural networks and real time processing. Montessuis has collaborated with artists including Charlemagne Palestine, David Larcher, Faustin Linyekula, Serge Pey, Henri Chopin, Joel Hubaut, Jörg Piringer, Franck Ancel, Maja Ratkje.

Collaborations avec : Charlemagne Palestine, Henri Chopin, Shu Lea Cheang, Maja Ratkje, Joel Hubaut, Jörg Piringer, collectif MU, David Larcher, Eléonore Hellio, Faustin Linyekula, Serge Pey, Charles Pennequin, Michel Giroud, Cédric Pigot, Franck Ancel, Moines Tibétains…
Il vit et travaille à Paris.

“hacking its own spirit” or how to alter reality through intention.

What might allow us to link SOUND to hacker philosophy* and biology, quantum physics, radical delirium musical artistic and poetic vanguards, experimental medecine, mathematics, technology, trance, hypnosis and 3500 year old Vedas Sanskritic texts? How to link Joseph Beuys’ concept of social sculpture to parapsychology as well as Joel Sternheimer’s proteins’ musics, not forgetting ayahuasca, shamanism and DNA?

The approach to spiritual compost may be considered as a potentially extremist branch of reality hacking **consisting in practicing a sort of cultural scrambling/jamming, indeed self-transformation. Hacking oneself would then simply consist in simply not letting oneself fall asleep, putting oneself at risk and awaken one’s own conscience by altering the reality we’re actually experiencing. For if fundamental principles of quantum physics may smash all notion of outside world objectively separated from the one who observes it; our attitude of dialogue with ourselves and reality as “creator participant” then reconditions our presence and our modes of action. The Spiritual Compost is conceived as an experimental approach of conscience, through a relentless angle of destruction of the conditioned mind to the benefit of a new mode of functioning. Let’s hack into ourselves!

This intervention will be accompanied by audiovisual examples detailing the common points and the existing links in the various practices mentioned previously.

* Hacker is a term typically used to describe someone penetrating a system by defusing its security protections in order to transform it.
** Reality hacking is an artistic approach, fruit of the intersection of Hacking culture, contemporary art, activism and cyber culture.

SPIRITUAL COMPOST
“hacking its own spirit” ou comment altérer la réalité à travers l’intention”
